STAT Alert! Synthetic Drugs

  • The horror stories you hear on the news are actually true, and are under-reported.
  • Calls to Poison Control Centers jumped from 3,200 calls in 2010 to over 7,000 in 2011 from synthetic drugs usage. Reports of heart-attacks, strokes and even death.
  • Hospitals have treated hundreds of users and usually have to subdue them with doses of drugs that are 1-020 times stronger than what they would give a regular patient undergoing a painful surgery.
  • Over 400 different compounds have been found in seized synthetic drugs since 2010 and 43 of these compounds (typically found in Synthetic Marijuana and Bath Salts) were made illegal July 9th, 2012.

Synthetic Marijuana (Fake Weed, Spice, Kush, etc)

  • Synthetic Marijuana is a mixture of herbs, spices, or genetic plant material sprayed with a Synthetic Compound chemically similar to THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana).
  • Smoked or Inhaled.
  • Looks like potpourri or incense and come in small packets that are marked "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION or AROMATHERAPY USE ONLY."
  • Also called Fake Pot, K2, Spice, Serenity, Genie, Twisted XXX, Diablo, Hawaiian Haze, Chill Spice, Ground Zero, C4 Bomb, Skunk, Sense, Magic, Mr Nice Guy, K4, Killer, Banzai, Blaze and Red X.

Synthetic Cocaine (Bath Salts)

  • Synthetic Cocaine is a white powder/crystal substance that is derived from Mephedrone and MDPV (Methylenedioxypyrovalerone). Mephedrone is an amphetamine substance that is scraped off the African Khat Plant and provides feelings of excitement and euphoria; while MDPV is a highly addictive substance that has 4X the potency of Ritalin.
  • Comes in little packages that look like Bath Salts and are marked NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.
  • Commonly called Bath Salts, also referenced as Vanilla Sky, Ivory Wave, Meph, Drone, Meow, Bubbles, MCAT, Legal Coke, White Lightning, Scarface, Red Dove and Wild Horse.
  • Inhaled, Snorted, Injected, Smoked or Swallowed.

Synthetic Opiates/Heroin (Krokodil)

A cheap alternative to Heroin, this highly addictive drug is gaining popularty in Russia. Made from codeine, iodine and red phosphorus, which are highly toxic and corrosive byproducts. Turns the users skin a scaly green color, can cause severe tissue damage, phlebitis, gangrene and can require limb amputation in long term users.
